Some websites are hard for customers with disabilities to use

About 1 in 4 U.S. adults lives with a disability (CDC). Small website issues like missing image descriptions, low-contrast text, or forms that don't work with a keyboard or screen reader can make it harder for those customers to book, call, or buy. A free scan shows you where your site stands.

Who it's for

3 quick checks you can do yourself

1. Image descriptions (alt text)

Every meaningful image should have a short text description that screen readers can read aloud. In your website builder, click an image and look for an "alt text" or "description" field. Describe what the image shows or does, for example "Front entrance of our bakery". Purely decorative images can be left empty.

2. Color contrast

Light gray text on a white background can be hard to read. Paste your text and background colors into a free contrast checker, such as the WebAIM Contrast Checker. Aim for a ratio of at least 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large headings.

3. Keyboard navigation

Put your mouse aside and press the Tab key to move through your homepage. You should be able to see where you are at each step and reach every link, menu, and button, then press Enter to use it. If focus disappears or you get stuck, that's worth fixing.
